We recommend that you complete at least two hours of observation with your site supervisor or a more experienced virutal reference librarian before beginning to chat on your own. When you feel ready, conduct a live chat session with an online patron while being observed.
When you have completed your observation and practice, have your site supervisor contact the Ask Us 24/7 Special Projects Librarian, Jaclyn McKewan, to notify her that you have completed your Ask Us 24/7 Virtual Reference Training Course. You are now ready to begin your virtual reference service on your own. Please refer to the resources provided on this page from time to time to ensure that you are following the Best Practices and providing high-quality service to your patrons.
