Lesson 5

Personal Scripts

Personal scripts allow you to create a list of your favorite messages to use while chatting with patrons. Here are some examples of personal scripts created by a librarian in our regional service:

  1. Andy-hello      Hello, this is Andy, we answer these questions through a
cooperative service, so I am not from your library. I'll be happy to help
though, let me read your question and I'll see what I can do for you.
  2. Andy-your gone       I haven't heard from you in a bit. I am going to exit
this session. If you need help in the future, please try this service again.

The 1st script is used as a response for a common situation. We will often answer questions from patrons in other regional library services, and frequently patrons from other services believe that they are talking with a librarian from their own library.

The 2nd script is used when a patron has been idle for an extended period of time during a chat session.
